Breastfeeding Support on Nantucket
“I thought breastfeeding was natural and that of course means it would be easy.”
Many mothers are surprised when nursing is harder than they thought or when they think they have it all figured out and life throws them a curve ball. Don’t worry! There is a free mother to mother drop in group that is unlike any other breastfeeding support group you’ve ever been to.
La Leche League is led by a trained and experienced mother. The meetings are structured on 4 different topics that rotate from one to the next throughout the year. You will hear many different ways of doing things and we encourage you to take what works and leave the rest. Come and share what has and has not worked for your family as well as any questions you may have. Come to one or all of the meetings and then come again! Meetings are open to all expectant and nursing mothers as well as their children. Meetings are held in the Early Childhood Center, a great space for kids to explore and play. Come as you are even if it’s in your PJs.
Meeting topic #1 The Advantages of Breastfeeding.
This meeting helps women know the benefits to them, their babies, their family, and even their employers. Knowing the benefits can help you stay dedicated when things are challenging.
Meeting #2 At Home With Your New Baby
A great meeting to learn how to pull it all together, realities and expectations of the newborn period, prepare an older sibling for a new arrival, and the unique needs of an older baby.
Meeting #3 Overcoming Common Difficulties.
Knowing this in advance can help you make your way through the bumps in the road.
Meeting #4 Nutrition and Weaning.
This topic focuses on Mom and baby as well as the family. There is so much to talk about from introducing solids, family nutrition, and how to wean gently with love.
Meetings are held the third Thursday of every month at 9am in the Early Childhood Center, 128 Old South Rd. I am available for help throughout the month via phone or feel free to contact me through this website. Breastfeeding is natural and with support it can be enjoyable.
